hmm this blog is literally dying.
a feeble attempt to revive it.
was reading max's blog post about wether we do things to please others, or please ourselves. got me thinking about the friends episode when phoebe tries to find a non-selfish good deed, and realised that the question never got answered.
IS there a selfless good deed? when we do a good deed, do we do it to make ourselves feel good or make others feel good?
if we do it to make ourselves feel good, then it is 'selfish,' i.e. you do things to please yourself.
if we do it to make others feel good, then it returns to max's question: you try to please others.
so we're in a pickle here.

how about a good balance of both :]
ReplyDeletebut sometimes you don't do good deeds to make yourself feel good, but you just feel good because you did a good deed
ReplyDeleteyeah but sometimes when you go do something intrinsically selfless with the knowledge that it will make you feel good, does that make you selfish?
